Shopping Safely for Little Ones this Holiday Season!

December 2, 2013 by Molly Huff

It's that time!  December is here, and that means (among other things) that it's time to start making those lists for Santa. As you and Santa look to fulfill those gift lists, keep in mind the toys that are the safest for the children in your house. December is Safe Toys and Gifts month, and Affinity has some guidelines that can help be sure the kids on your list are happy and safe on Christmas morning.

Always remember the following before purchasing a gift:

  • Read all warning and instructions on the packaging
  • Ask yourself if the toy is appropriate for the child's age and ability
  • Avoid purchasing toys with sharp or rigid points, spikes, rods or dangerous edges - especially for young children
  • Buys toys that withstand impact and won't break into dangerous shards
  • Look for the "ASTM" lane - this means the product meets the natural safety standards set by the American Society for Testing and Materials
