June 27, 2013 by Molly Huff

TRMC is gearing up for its annual Kick-off to Men's Health to be held on Saturday, July 27, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the new Tift Regional Community Events Center.

"This event brings the excitement of the upcoming high school football season together with free medical screenings and health information for men," said Joy Davis, TRMC community events coordinator.

High school football coaches from Tift County, Tiftarea Academy, Worth County, Fitzgerald High, Irwin County, Coffee High and Turner County will preview their 2013 seasons and answer questions from fans.   The coaches' forum will be hosted by Chris Beckham, the host of the popular Triangle Furniture Football Friday Night radio program that airs during the season.

"No other sport in South Georgia is followed with the same passion as high school football," Beckham said. "We think of this as the unofficial start to the football season. After this, all of the teams will begin their official preseason workouts, so this is the fans' first chance to really get together and start the gridiron talk."

The free medical screenings will be from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. and will include blood pressure screenings and lipid panels that will check blood sugar, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides.  At 10:00 a.m., William Grow, M.D.  will give a brief lecture on stroke prevention, symptoms and treatment.  Dr. Grow is the medical director of the South Health District, a division of the state's health department system.  The coaches' forum will begin at 10:30 am.   Complimentary food and health information will also be available.

The Tift Regional Community Events Center is located in Tifton at 1657 South Carpenter Road in the Tiftarea YMCA building. The event is free and requires no registration.  For more information, call Tift Regional Medical Center's Outreach and Development Department at 353-6318.
